Welcome to second grade at
Dexheim Elementary School, where we make learning fun!
One of the major goals for students
in second grade is to have them reading fluently, independently, and
with comprehendsion. Reading is a very important skill and we use it in
all of our subjects. The other subjects covered in second grade are:
Grammar, Writing, Spelling, Math, Social Studies, Science, and Health.
The students also have "special classes": Art, Music, P.E.,
Enrichment and Host Nation (A class where they learn about Germany).

In second grade, I look for parent
volunteers to assist in listening to students read, working with a
reading group, or helping out with various activities that are planned
throughout the year. Parents are an important part of the school. Every
week a class newsletter is sent out to keep parents informed of what is
happening in the classroom. At the end of the month, I send out a
Monthly Progress Report to inform parents of how their child is
performing. If any issues arise, I will inform the parents right away.
As the second grade teacher - I
believe that every child can learn and has the ability to make a
difference. Reading is an important part of what they learn because it
is a foundation for life. In school, they learn many important life
skills that they use the rest of their life.
